Judge's findings on UK press promised next week

(AP) A British judge appointed to investigate press standards and possible changes in regulation in the wake of a phone hacking scandal will publish his recommendations next week.

Lord Justice Brian Leveson said Thursday his long-awaited report will be released on Nov. 29.

Prime Minister David Cameron appointed Leveson to lead the inquiry following revelations that journalists at the Sunday tabloid News of the World had used a private detective to hack the phone of missing schoolgirl Milly Dowler when police were searching for her. She was later found to have been murdered.

The Dowler revelation embroiled Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. in crisis, prompting it to end publication of News of the World.

The case also prompted a police investigation leading to criminal charges against some prominent journalists.
