A Kingston man facing burglary charges in Hanover Township was recently sentenced in Texas for slashing a taxi driver's neck in May.

Daniel Francis Edmonds Jr., 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Coryell County, Texas, Court. He was sentenced last month by Coryell County Judge Trent D. Farrell to 15 years in Texas state prison, according to the Coryell County Clerk's Office.

Copperas Cove, Texas, police arrested Edmonds when he was found sitting inside a Starbucks coffee shop after he slashed a 51-year-old man inside a taxi on May 28. Copperas police said the cab driver attempted to get away from Edmonds and drove the taxi into a concrete light post in the parking lot of a Walmart.

Hanover Township police obtained an arrest warrant for Edmonds in May charging him with breaking into a house on Front Street and stealing two safes, jewelry and money in April.

Township police said Edmonds is known by the family on Front Street.

Edmonds is facing charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property. It remained unknown if Edmonds will be returned to Luzerne County to face the charges.

Luzerne County Court records say Edmonds was sentenced in November 2011 to one to six months in jail for his role in a burglary at the Cabaret Lounge in Kingston on Aug. 3, 2010. Edmonds was admitted to the county's treatment court but was removed when he violated conditions of the program, court records say.
