WILKES-BARRE – FDU-Florham came to Wilkes-Barre with one of the country's longest winning streaks by a women's basketball team.
King's didn't just break FDU's run, the Lady Monarchs dominated the nationally ranked Devils on Saturday at Scandlon Gymnasium in an impressive 66-45 win.
The Lady Monarchs trailed by three at halftime, but took over in the final 20 minutes, outscoring No. 25 FDU 45-21. King's handed the Devils their first conference loss of the season, snapping a run of 18 straight wins on the year.
King's (16-5, 8-2) pulled within one game of the Devils (19-2, 9-1) for first place in the Freedom Conference with four games left to play. The two teams split the season series.
Senior guard Katlin Michaels rebounded from a 0-for-8 start from the field to lead the team with 20 points, finishing 14-of-17 from the foul line.
Freshman Jennifer Fabian came through with top performance of her young career, picking up a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Celia Rader added 15 points while fellow senior Molly Dahl just missed a double-double of her own with nine points and nine boards.
As a bonus, the Lady Monarchs clinched a spot in the upcoming Freedom Conference tournament with a win.
The Lady Colonels dropped their sixth straight Freedom Conference game with a road loss to the Valiants.
Wilkes pulled within two points with 8:53 to play, but Manhattanville used a 13-0 run to put the game away.
Elena Stambone led Wilkes (10-10, 2-8) with 15 points.
King's was held to 18 points in the first half and couldn't climb all the way back in the second.
The loss damaged the playoff hopes for the Monarchs (9-12, 4-6), who fell two games behind the Devils for the fourth and final Freedom Conference tournament bid with four games left to play. The Devils are 5-5 in league play and own a tiebreaker over King's from sweeping the season series.
Keyton Winder led King's with 16 points.
Carrying momentum from their first conference win of the season on Wednesday, the Colonels went on the road and beat the Valiants to pick up another victory.
Chris Shovlin scored 20 points to lead Wilkes, followed by Tyler Breznitsky (12), Cameron Hinkel (11) and Pat Furst (11). The Colonels shot 47 percent from the floor as a team.
The nationally ranked Colonels continued their success with a sweep at its second straight home quad.
Wilkes began the day with a 30-12 win over McDaniel then followed with a 36-6 victory against Trinity and capped the day with a 43-3 win over Lycoming.
Jeff Peterson, Mark Hartenstine, Nathan White Eric Bach and Matthew Transue all earned wins.
Carl Daubert, Jarrett Higley, Mikael Hause and Andrew Nelson combined to set a new school record in the 4x400 relay as Misericordia competed at East Stroudsburg.
The relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:32.23.
Marina Orrson, Hilari Norris, and Sarah Wigg combined to break four school records for Misericordia as the Lady Cougars competed at East Stroudsburg.
Orrson placed first in both the 5,000 meters and the 1,000 meters, breaking school the school record and reaching the ECAC qualifying time in both events.
Peter Borum totaled 23 points for the Black Knights in their win against the Preppers on Saturday.
Corey Rogers led MMI Prep with 18 points.
