Get Text AlertsOne small city block situated in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre gave so much. The block is West Chestnut Street, from North River Street to Harry Zwass' old grocery store.
Now that another Veterans Day has arrived, I would like to give honor to the men of this block.
These brave and noble men gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country, so that all of us can live with freedom: Silver Star recipient John (Terry) Tarantini, Billy (Voss) Boris, Nicholas (Nicky) Rodock, Michael (Blackie) Seniuk, Paul (Pickles) Malaborski and Bronze Star recipient Edward (Ja-Ja) Ference.
The block also had three prisoners of war: George Lapchak, Joseph Evans and Steve Peyko.
Let all of us pray, and give thanks to these men and all the other brave men and women who served.

Both Wilkes-Barre city and Wilkes-Barre school politics never cease to amaze me.
It reminds me of what the farmers said to the city dude while walking through the pigpens on a farm: What smell?
