Man sentenced in store robbery

WILKES-BARRE – An Edwardsville man charged with attempting to rob a music store and then fleeing on a bicycle was sentenced Monday to 18 to 36 months in state prison.

Michael Wright, 28, of Green Street, was sentenced by Judge Michael Vough on a single count of robbery. Wright, who pleaded guilty to the charge in October, was given 178 days credit for time already served in prison.

According to court papers, on May 6, police were called to 59 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, to the Musical Energi store for the report of an attempted robbery.

A clerk told police a white male entered the store and asked if he would like to buy some items. The clerk told the man, later identified as Wright, to come back the next day to speak with the store's manager.

Wright left the store and returned a short time later with a hand-written note that said: Got a knife, give me your money. Will (expletive) kill you.

The clerk told Wright he was going to hit the security button to call police when Wright left the store and peddled away on a bicycle. Wright was spotted along South Main Street in the city and picked up by police.

Wright told police he placed a bag containing a white T-shirt and CDs nearby. Police said they found the note used in the attempted robbery in Wright's pants pocket.

Wright was ordered to have no contact with the store or the clerk involved in the incident.
