Meyers (5-5)
at
North Schuylkill (7-3)
7 p.m. today
Eastern Conference 2A Semifinal
The Coaches: Meyers' Corry Hanson (8-12, 2nd year); North Schuylkill's Glenn Geist (0-0, interim coach)
Last Meeting: first meeting
All-Time Series: first meeting
Quick Fact: Geist will coach in place of his brother Rick Geist, who resigned Sunday after being suspended last week for a locker room incident at halftime of a recent game.
What's At Stake: The winner plays the Carbondale at Palisades game for the title. Meyers will be on the road if it wins. North Schuylkill will host the game if it wins.
Scouting Meyers: The wheels have been loose a couple times for Meyers this season. They came completely off in last Friday's 50-12 loss to rival GAR.
The Mohawks had a season-low 52 yards on the ground. QB Teaguen Labatch tossed a season-high 26 passes with little production as big-play WR Matt DeMarco was shut down. Three turnovers didn't help either.
The defense hasn't performed well against better teams, allowing an average of 45.4 points to five opponents that qualified for the district playoffs.
Scouting North Schuylkill: The Spartans entered the season favored to win their fourth consecutive title in Anthracite Football League, where they hadn't lost a game since 2008. Instead, they finished tied for second because of losses to champ Tamaqua and Schuylkill Haven.
Despite the turmoil surrounding their coach, the Spartans finished the season with a 42-28 victory over ELCO. RBs Matt Gownley and Ethan Motsney both went over 100 yards. FB Matt Smarkanic provides more running punch.
What To Expect: There are some video clips of North Schuylkill on the team's website. The Spartans look like a very tough matchup for Meyers based on them.
