WILKES-BARRE – It's been a few years since Meyers was a dominant force in the Wyoming Valley Conference.

With a young team now, the Mohawks showed on Friday how good the team with just four seniors on the roster can be and how bright the future may be in a 4-0 win over GAR at Gibby Field in a Wyoming Valley Conference boys soccer crossover match.

"A lot of things we do you could see our youth," Meyers coach Jack Nolan said. "It's to be expected. Hopefully everyday we play a little bit better. "

The team looked like a veteran bunch on Friday as it appeared at times to dominate the Grenadiers (1-7). Junior Cal Lisman gave the Mohawks (3-4-0) an early 1-0 lead four minutes into the contest off a pass from Fernando Ramirez. After the teams battled for another 30 minutes without a tally, Lisman struck again with 2:20 left before halftime for a 2-0 lead. This time he was set up by Geno Setta.

Jarek Hernandez, who is a freshman, scored the final two goals of the game. Lisman assisted on the first one, which came with 11:47 left in the game. Mauricio Rey, another freshman, registered the helper on Hernandez's second goal.

Meyers also plays two freshmen in goal. David Torres played the entire first half making two saves, while Adam Casey was in net the final 40 minutes and stopped four GAR shots.

"We're looking to get better every game and I think our future is pretty bright," Nolan added. "We have a good freshman thins year and a good freshman class coming up next year too."
