Just two days before one of the biggest games in his collegiate career, Ryan Cordingly heard great news on Thursday.

The King's College senior, who played at Berwick High School, learned he is a repeat selection to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The linebacker, who will close out his career in the Mayor's Cup game against rival Wilkes on Saturday, will now be placed on the national ballot for the Capital One Division III Academic All-American Team. Last season Cordingly earned second-team Academic All-American honors.

In order to be nominated, student-athletes must maintain a minimum 3.3 overall grade-point average and be at least a sophomore in class standing.

Cordingly earned the reputation of being one of the top student-athletes in the nation with his Academic All-American selection last year as well as his recent distinction of being named a semifinalist to the 2012 National Football Foundation Walter V. Campbell Scholar-Athlete Award, presented to the top football-playing student athlete in the nation.

Cordingly has excelled in the classroom for King's with an overall 3.96 grade-point average as a finance major in King's prestigious AACSB accredited McGowan School of Business. He has earned King's Dean's List honors every semester and has been named to the college's Beta Gamma Sigma, Delta Epsilon Sigma and Aquinas honor societies. He is also a three-time MAC All-Academic selection.

Cordingly serves as vice president of King's Finance Association and is on the college's Student Athlete Athletic Council Executive Committee. Over the summer of 2012, Cordingly completed an Executive Internship with Target Corporation.

A two-year captain of the Monarch football team, Cordingly has served as an academic tutor at King's and has done volunteer work with CitySERVE, Bowl for Kid's Sake and the Take Back the Night City March to help raise awareness about violence towards women.
