Thomas Marsola, a seventh-grade student in Mrs. Fisher's homeroom at Dallas Middle School, was the winner of the 31st Annual Jane M. Stitzer Spelling Bee held on Jan. 3. Twenty-eight contestants earned the right to compete by winning a preliminary spelling bee in English class. Marsola clinched the winning position by correctly spelling the word, gelato. He will now compete in the Times Leader/Scripps NEPA Regional Spelling Bee on March 3 at The Woodlands Inn and Resort, Plains Township. Lindsey Jorda, a sixth-grade student from Mr. Barbose's homeroom, was the runner up.
