New Wellness Center project to continue

KINGSTON – The Wyoming Valley West School Board on Wednesday night authorized advertisement of bids for the second phase of the Wellness Center Renovation Project.

The Wellness Center, formerly St. Stephen's Church and Rectory in Plymouth, is a joint project between the school district and Plymouth Township. The two entities received a $250,000 grant for the facility, which will benefit the community.

Finance Manager Joe Rodriguez said the second phase of renovations will include mechanical upgrades, air conditioning, an elevator and other expenses to increase the usability of the structure.

In other matters:

Board member Thomas Pieczynski was nominated to serve as the district's representative on the West Side Career and Technology board for a term that expires at the end of 2014. The vote was unanimous, with Gary Richards absent.

The board officially approved changes to the elementary life skills program. All elementary life skills classes are now located at the State Street Elementary Center.

The board appointed the following spring head coaches: Amy Walsh, girls spring track; Angelo Scaffido, boys spring track; John Milius, boys baseball; Desiree Hooper, girls softball; Jim Zimmerman, boys tennis; and Joe Czopek, boys volleyball.

What's next

The board will hold its reorganization meeting Dec. 3 at 7 p.m., followed by a work session and regular monthly meeting.
