No one injured in fiery Megabus crash in Georgia

(AP) A double-decker bus caught fire along Interstate 85 in northeast Georgia, forcing passengers to scramble off and closing the northbound lanes of the busy highway for hours.

The bus was traveling from Atlanta to Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday when the fire began about 11:40 a.m. near Parkertown Mill, Ga. Chicago-based Megabus said about 80 passengers were aboard and all were safely evacuated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The fire is the latest in a string of problems for the company. On Aug. 2, a Megabus struck a bridge pillar near Litchfield, Ill., killing one passenger and injuring dozens. A Chicago woman died Tuesday when she was struck by a Megabus.

In a statement Wednesday, the company said safety is its No. 1 priority and that the bus that caught fire is a 2012 model.
