And now on to Christmas shopping. For the food and/or nutrition buffs on your list, here are a few ideas:

Registered dietitians Jodie Shields and Mary Catherine Mullen offers research-based strategies to help parents address the nutritional health of their children. Includes three weeks of menus and more than 40 kid-tested-and-approved healthy recipes.



Whole Grains for a New Generation: Stewart, Tabori & Chang, 2012. Beautifully organized and illustrated, author Liana Krissoff provides simple yet accurate information about whole grains along with light dishes, hearty meals, sweet treats and sundry snacks for the everyday cook.



Dishing it Up Disney Style: A Cookbook for Families with Type 1 Diabetes: 2012. Lilly Diabetes and Disney collaborated to create this cookbook that addresses the unique nutritional needs of those living with Type 1 diabetes. Disney-inspired recipes are nutritionally analyzed and endorsed by the Diabetes Care and Education Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Book is available for free at pediatric endocrinologist offices nationwide.



Nutrition: What Every Parent Needs to Know: 2nd edition, American Academy of Pediatrics, 2012. Edited by physicians William Dietz and Lorraine Stern, this book addresses child feeding issues from picky eating to obesity. Allergies, eating disorders and even indulgent grandparents are addressed.



Pregnancy Cooking & Nutrition for Dummies: John Wiley & Sons, 2012. Registered dietitian Tara Gidus provides research-based nutrition and weight gain guidance along with 100 recipes for a healthy pregnancy outcome.



The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet: Harper Collins, 2012. Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., and Mindy Hermann, a registered dietician, teach us how to eat fewer calories per bite and still feel satisfied — a proven method for weight control. Includes four weeks of sample menus and recipes.



Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes: 3rd edition, Velo, 2012. Registered dietitian Monique Ryan provides updated sports nutrition guidance for long distance runners.
