2 p.m. Saturday
The Coaches: Pittston Area's Mike Barrett (5-10, 2nd year); Dallas' Bob Zaruta (2-3, 1st year)
Last Meeting: Dallas 21-14 in 2011
All-Time Series: Pittston Area leads 17-15
Quick Fact: Dallas has won the last three meetings by a combined score of 78-27.
Scouting Pittston Area: Maybe this group of Patriots just loves close games. They led Hazleton Area 26-7 entering the fourth quarter and held on for a 26-21 victory. Six of their games under Barrett have been decided by seven points or less.
QB James Emmett seems to be getting more comfortable and has thrown five TD passes in the last two games. RB Mark Romanczuk ran for 96 yards, the best output by a Pittston Area back this season. The defense chipped in with five turnovers.
Scouting Dallas: The Mountaineers continue to progress after starting 0-3. They dominated Williamsport 31-7 last Friday, with RB Kris Roccograndi rushing for a career-high 221 yards and QB Ryan Zapoticky tossing three touchdown passes. However, it must be noted that Williamsport has performed poorly on defense all season.
The defense had its best game, holding Williamsport star RB Devin Miller to 41 yards, his worst performance in his last eight games. The rush defense has allowed just 2.7 yards per carry in its last two games.
What To Expect: This is a key game in that the loser is almost certain to drop out of the District 2 Class 3A playoff picture. That said, it also means it could be a heck of a battle.
