SCRANTON – A New York City man has been indicted for his alleged roles in two armed robberies at two jewelry stores in the Wyoming Valley more than four years ago.


U.S. Attorney Peter Smith said Huby Ramkissoon, 37, was arrested Tuesday in New York City.


Ramkissoon is charged with robbing Dunay Jewelers on Hazle Avenue, Wilkes-Barre on May 14, 2008, and Steve Hydock Diamonds on Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, on May 5, 2008.


Ramkissoon pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared before U.S. District Magistrate Malachy E. Mannion. He was ordered jailed pending trial.


Court records indicate Jason Soto, 23, was sentenced in May 2009 to seven to 14 years in state prison for his role in the robbery at Dunay Jewelers.


Jerry Smith, 34, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was sentenced in federal court, Scranton, in June 2010 to 121 months in prison for his roles in the robberies at Dunay Jewelers and Steve Hydock Diamonds.


WILKES-BARRE – A woman was arraigned Thursday on charges she attempted to pass altered $1 bills as $100 bills at Turkey Hill on Hazle Avenue on Dec. 18.


Nikita Patterson, 22, of Harry Street, Wilkes-Barre, was charged with forgery. She was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.
