ASHLEY – Two people from Dupont recently were charged in a home invasion Aug. 24 on West Hartford Street.


Florence O. Burt, 52, and Lee M. Marshall, 32, each was charged with four counts of simple assault and a single count of burglary. They were arraigned by District Judge Joseph Zola last Friday and remained jailed as of Thursday at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $10,000 bail each.


Police said more arrests are pending.


HANOVER TWP. – Township police reported the following:


• An investigation into a vehicle crash on Monday determined the driver was not racing another driver on the Sans Souci Parkway.


Police identified Lukas Szczucki, 23, of South Hanover Street, Nanticoke, as the driver of a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am that crashed and rolled into a ditch near Red Fox Lane. Szczucki was ejected from the car and transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.


Police said there were conflicting reports that Szczucki was racing another driver.


Video surveillance from business cameras showed Szczucki was traveling at a high rate of speed and was not racing another driver when he lost control of the Pontiac, police said.


• Hallie Witthar of West Germania Street reported a burglary at her residence between noon and 9:06 p.m. Wednesday. A rear door was forced open. Police said a 9mm Glock handgun, a .380-caliber Taurus handgun, a 40-inch Sylvania television, a 48-inch Phillips television and a Nintendo Wii game system were stolen.


Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Hanover Township police at 825-1254.


BUTLER TWP. – Township police reported the following:


• A woman fled Valley Pharmacy on Rittenhouse Road without paying for pseudoephedrine tablets on Jan. 11.


• Police charged Tariq S. Williams, 19, of Philadelphia, on charged he was in possession of marijuana at Keystone Job Corps Center on Jan. 14. Williams allegedly tried to smuggle the marijuana into the facility. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $5,000 bail.


• Police said a Dell Inspiron laptop computer, money and jewelry, including a 1989 West Hazleton class ring, were stolen during a home burglary on Lions Drive on Jan. 16.


• A 35-year-old woman on West Butler Drive reported she was contacted by her bank about a transaction of several thousand dollars. The woman never authorized the transaction. An investigation linked a computer virus to a financial information leak.


• Money was stolen during a home burglary in the 200 block of Bear Run Drive on Jan. 18.


• Police said two people were prowling outside a residence in the 100 block of West Butler Drive on Jan. 20.


• Police said William Hartley Jr., 41, of Drums, was not injured when he lost control of his vehicle, which struck a utility pole on North Old Turnpike Road on Monday.


• Police charged Ian Matthew Oberrender, 22, of Mountain Top, with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after a fight at Miller's CafĂ© on St. Johns Road on Monday.


• Police said an employee at Holiday Inn Express encountered a man stealing money from a vending machine on Thursday. The man is described as a white man in his 20s, 5-feet, 4-inches to 5-feet, 6-inches tall with dark hair. He wore a white baseball hat, black hooded sweatshirt and a black coat.


A white woman acting as a lookout was described as being in her 20s, 5-feet 4-inches, to 5- feet 6-inches tall with blonde hair. She wore a black hooded sweatshirt.


Witnesses spotted the woman running through a wooded area toward Corporate Drive and North Hunter Highway.
