Residents say burglars hitting homes in area

DORRANCE TWP. – A resident told township supervisors on Monday night that people need to be on the alert for burglars who are targeting area residences.

There have been break-ins over the past two weeks, including at her house and two others on Sunset Road, Cheryl Eroh said.

Eroh said she was advised by a state police trooper that the the word needs to get out that people should be on the lookout for any suspicious vehicles or individuals.

In Eroh's case, she told the supervisors her house was entered and her loss of about $500 included jewelry, family keepsakes and a coin collection that included 10 Morgan silver dollars.

Another resident, Mrs. Edward Cooper, said her house was entered on Oct. 17, when burglars extracted a safe from her basement and wheeled it by a hand truck to a waiting vehicle. Cooper said the weight of the safe caused tire track impressions in her yard. She said jewelry and cash also were taken from other rooms in the house.

Supervisor Ben Ostrowski said township residents should heed police advice and be observant of suspicious activities and report them to police.

In other matters, a no-tax-increase tentative budget of $528,924 has been proposed for adoption Dec. 3.
