WILKES-BARRE – Abid Syed has a friend who served as a technician on a Hollywood movie, so he decided to invest as an associate producer.

The movie – The Sessions – stars John Hawkes and Helen Hunt. Hawkes has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award as best actor and Hunt received a supporting actress nomination. Syed is hopeful the film also will get some Oscar nominations.

Maybe we will walk on the red carpet, Syed said Friday.

He and his wife, Kavita, are owners of Letts Eat – Flavors of India that opened Friday on South Main Street.

According to several Internet sites, The Sessions is a 2012 American independent drama film written and directed by Ben Lewin. It's based on an essay by Mark O'Brien, a poet paralyzed from the neck down due to polio who, with the help of his priest and therapist, hired a sex surrogate to lose his virginity.

It also stars William H. Macy as the priest.

The Syeds moved to the United States 12 years ago from Mumbai, India. Kavita designed clothing in Los Angeles for a few years, and the couple decided to move east and settled in Drums. Abid, 38, – Kavita offered her husband's age, but concealed her own – said his friend told him about the movie and he looked into investing.

Syed said he didn't know when The Sessions will be shown in area theaters.
