Royals win event behind Warnagiris

WILKES-BARRE -- Sarah Warnagiris earned MVP in the Holy Redeemer Girls Volleyball Royal Rumble as the Royals won the tournament in a 2-0 victory over Troy on Saturday.


Holy Redeemer defeated Dallas 2-0 to advance to the final, while Troy shut out Delaware Valley in its semifinal match.


Nicole Slavoski (Holy Redeemer), Sydney Kotch (Holy Redeemer), Tanner Englehart (Dallas), Mikayla and Kelsey Bristol (Troy), and Taylor Braunagel (Delaware Valley) earned all-tournament team honors.


Erin Schofield from MaST Charter of Philadelphia earned the Bob Page Sportsmanship Award.

U16 Girls Wyoming Valley Cup


Plains 2, Nanticoke 0

Caroline and Abby Majeski each scored a goal as Plains shut out Nanticoke in a B-bracket game. Kelsey Joyce stopped 10 shots to secure the shutout for Plains.


Back Mountain 5, Plains 3

Megan Spess scored two goals in overtime to lead Back Mountain to a victory over Plains.


Alexa Dosiak also scored two goals for Back Mountain while Kyleigh Kravits chipped in one.


Brooke Warner, M'Kensie Lee and Rachel Supinski each recorded a goal for Plains.


Hanover 5, Bear Creek 0

Riley Klepadlo recorded a hat trick to lead Hanover to a shutout victory over Bear Creek.


Alyssa Koneski and Mallory Ellis each chipped in a goal for Hanover.


Goalies Michelle McNair and Emily Gregorski secured the shutout for Hanover.


U14 Girls Wyoming Valley Cup Nanticoke 3, Stoners 0

Emily Simms, Taylor Zabrenski and Kayla Aufiero each scored a goal as the Nanticoke Strikers shut out the Stoners.


Nanticoke 5, Back Mountain 0

Nanticoke defeated Back Mountain during Wyoming Valley Cup play behind two scores from Brinley Sobek.


Michaela Buckley Leah Mullery each had one goal to contribute to the win.


U11 Boys Wyoming Valley Cup Forty Fort 4, Pittston 3

John Sarris recorded two goals to lead Forty Fort to a one-goal victory over Pittston.


Anthony Berrini and Colin Conway each added a goal for Forty Fort.


Gavin Lahart led Pittston with two goals.


Plains No. 2 2, Stoners 0

Ethan Cegblka and Richie Morris each scored one goal in the Plains shutout victory over Stoners.


Plains No. 1 2, Forty Fort 1

Henri Avila and Adam Wisnewski each scored as Plains defeated Forty Fort in Wyoming Valley Cup action.


John Sarris scored for Forty Fort.


U11 Girls Wyoming Valley Cup Forty Fort 3, Bear Creek 1 (PK)

Mia Magnotta, Alex Wesneski and Avary Heckman each scored goals during a penalty kick shootout to give Forty Fort the victory over Bear Creek.


Mary Zavada allowed just one goal during the shootout for the Pioneers.
