KINGSTON – Wyoming Valley West coach Pat Keating had his team prepared to take whatever Williamsport would give them in their final regular season game Friday night.

The Spartans took to every gap in the Millionaire defense on their way to a potential home game in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

By night's end, they had compiled 475 yards of total offense that included 346 yards on the ground. Spartans tailback Derrick Simms accounted for 213 of those yards on his way to breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the season as his Spartans throttled Williamsport 48-14 on a rainy night at Spartan Stadium.

Our three losses came to really tough opponents, Keating said of a 7-3 season. Our kids really came up big this year after losing all the players we lost from a year ago.

The Millionaires (0-10) started the game with a five-minute drive that was highlighted by a Caleb Belle 33-yard scamper and an 11-yard completion to Owen Lukens from Sadiq Burkholder.

The possession eventually stalled, and that is when the Spartans ground attack took over. Their running game was spearheaded by a series of strong 15- and 20-yard bursts through the Millionaires defense by Derrick Simms. Brett Good and Michael Baur also contributed on the ground during the 70-yard drive that took just about three minutes, and was capped by an Eric Acosta 3-yard plunge into the end zone.

Five minutes later, Baur hooked up with Lucky Williams for a 10-yard scoring strike to make it 14-0 after a two-point conversion. Williams finished the game with 41 yards on three catches. Baur completed eight passes in a row at one point to go 8 for 9 overall with 129 yards.

Simms scored on touchdown runs of 7 and 17 yards in the second quarter as he tallied 160 yards on the ground by halftime. Good closed the first half by scoring on a 2-yard run to make it 34-0 at the half. Good finished with 22 yards on four attempts.

It was special to get Derrick his 1,000 yards, Keating said. It will be sad to see him and the seniors go after the season.

Michael Baur rumbled 9 yards to pay dirt to stake the Spartans to 41-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Baur rushed for 25 yards in the contest.

Simms broke the 1,000-yard mark during the third quarter on a bruising 37-yard run.
