PROPERTY TAX REFORM
Tarah Toohil:
Believes property tax reform is a problem that needs to be remedied and looked at by the Legislature. Supports looking into bills that either eliminate property taxes or call for consolidated collection of local income taxes.
Ransom Young:
Believes money from other sources, including gaming money can be used to close the property tax reform problem.
ACT 13
Toohil:
Supports impact fees for those involved in the Marcellus Shale industry because the industry affects municipalities, and noted the fees must be uniform and appropriately addressed
Young:
Supports impact fees because of the toll the industry takes on individual states, roadways and the environment.
SIZE OF LEGISLATURE
Toohil:
Is co-sponsor of a House bill that reduces the number of legislators from 203 to 154 and supports making the government run more efficiently by doing so.
Young:
Supports reducing the size of the Legislature and having lawmakers pay a larger percentage of their health insurance.
VOTER ID
Toohil:
Supports the proposed law as a right that needs to be protected to avoid voter fraud and intimidation.
Young:
Not against the proposal, but feels the law needs to be well thought out over a period of time and be all-inclusive.
EDUCATION
Toohil:
Supports programs making high school students aware of skills they need to ensure they find employment when out of college and are prepared for jobs that will exist.
Young:
Supports increased funding to local schools to ensure extracurricular activities are available and that school facilities are used for those activities.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Toohil:
Opposes tolling of Interstate 80, but supports public-private transportation partnerships approved by the governor in July through House Bill 3.
Young:
Supports using money from the Act 13 impact fee to fund road infrastructure, as well as finding other alternatives, such as more efficient vehicles.
