HAZLETON – A man city police say assaulted a pregnant woman with the intention of killing the unborn child made similar threats to another pregnant woman, according to court records.

Daniel Delese, 22, of Jeddo, was sentenced in November 2011 to three to 23 ½ months in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on charges he sexually assaulted a then-15-year-old girl who became pregnant.

Delese was given immediate parole when Senior Judge Hugh Mundy credited him with 88 days time served at the county prison.

A series of parole violations were filed against Delese for non-payment of fines and for contacting the teen girl, court records indicate.

The girl claimed in a statement to the county Adult Probation Department on Dec. 19, 2011, that Delese had called her numerous times, threatened to beat up her friends and kept telling her to kill herself and her unborn child.

He (sic) keep telling me to go kill myself and kill the baby or he will punch me in the stomach (sic) his self, the teen girl wrote on a victim statement form.

An arrest warrant was issued for Delese on Jan. 18 when he failed to appear for a court hearing on the parole violation. He was captured and appeared April 12 before Mundy, who sentenced Delese to an additional six months in jail with credit for 136 days time served, according to court records.

Delese was released on parole on May 30, when he was permitted to live with his grandmother in Freeland. He violated parole when Hazleton police cited him with harassment in July.

He once again appeared before Mundy on Sept. 11, when he was re-sentenced to house arrest for four months without electronic monitoring. His parole is scheduled to expire on July 20, 2013, court records say.

Police said they arrested Delese on Friday after he had an argument with his pregnant girlfriend in Jeddo. He allegedly told the girl he was going to kill her unborn child and struck the woman multiple times in the abdomen, police said.

Delese was charged with aggravated assault on an unborn child, aggravated assault, harassment, terroristic threats and two counts of simple assault. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Dec. 12 before District Judge James Dixon in Hazle Township.
