The Theatre at the Grove in Nuangola will be trying something new this year with it's professional summer stock season: making it more than just “Summer” stock. For the first time in its history, the troupe will present a holiday production.

The doors of the historic venue will open once more this season to offer performances of A Christmas Carol: The Musical. Charles Dickens' classic gets the full treatment with music and lyrics by the Broadway team of Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid,), Lynn Ahrens (Ragtime, Seussical)

The holiday production will run November 30 through December 9. Theatre at the Grove is located at 5177 Nuangola Road in Nuangola.

“We at the Grove hope that patrons will kick-start the holiday season with us here at the Grove”, said Mimi Addoms, Manager of Theatre at the Grove. “What a better way to get things started than to get the family together and enjoy a fun-filled evening of fine theatrical entertainment.”

A Christmas Carol: The Musical will be directed by Grove Producing Artistic Director and former PTPA Artistic Director Michael Marone. The show will host a cast of 14 actors, the largest Theatre at the Grove has seen since the 1950's, playing over 65 classic Dickens' characters. The Grove is also extending one additional offer with the Christmas production: a special Thursday “Family Night” performance. A $5 discount per ticket will be offered for children under the age of 16 when accompanied by a paying adult valid for the Thursday, December 6 performance only.

The production stars Hazleton-local Drew Coffman as Ebenezer Scrooge, the iconic Dickens' humbug. Coffman has performed in multiple productions of A Christmas Carol including playing the role of Scrooge in the 2004 production at the Pennsylvania Theatre of Performing Arts. Playing the roles of the Ghosts that visit Scrooge throughout the night are George Steltz as Jacob Marley, Amanda Reese as The Ghost of Christmas Past, Michael Marone as Christmas Present, and Sue Drake as Christmas Future.

The cast is rounded out by Chris Laundry as Bob Crachit, Angel Mulcahy as Mrs. Crachit, David Parmalee as Mr. Fezziwig, Sue Drake as Mrs. Fezziwig, Ben Steltz as Young Scrooge, Angela Larose as Emily.

Children's roles in the production are played by Michael Quinnan, Michael Parmalee and Abigail Martino. Becky Philips and John Beppler round out the cast playing multiple featured roles in the ensemble.
