(AP) Around 23,000 Chinese-made cars are being recalled in Australia after asbestos was found inside engine and exhaust gaskets.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said Wednesday that car importer Ateco Automotive ordered dealers to stop selling the affected vehicles by Great Wall Motor Co. and Chery Automobile. Ateco also recalled gaskets that were distributed as spare parts.

Australia has prohibited the importation of asbestos since 2004.

Ateco did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
