Tom Kostopoulos rejoins WBS Penguins

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed forward Tom Kostopoulos to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).


Kostopoulos, 33, is Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's all-time leader in games played (318), goals (97), assists (149) and points (246). He ranks first on the team's playoff scoring list with 38 points (11G-27A) in 51 games.


Now entering his 14thyear of professional hockey, Kostopoulos was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (204thoverall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.


After a three-year career with the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights that saw Kostopoulos compile 64 goals and 98 assists in 196 contests, Kostopoulos broke into pro hockey in 1999-00 with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He posted 26 goals, 32 assists and 58 points during his rookie season, each ranking second on the team. In 2001-02, he led the Penguins in scoring with 53 points (27G-26A) over 70 games, while earning a selection to the AHL All-Star Game.


Kostopoulos made his NHL debut with the Penguins during the 2001-02 season and has appeared in 615 NHL games with Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Montreal, Carolina and Calgary, totaling 60 goals, 96 assists and 705 penalty minutes.


The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins face the St. John's IceCaps tonight at 7:05PM at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
