PLAINS TWP. – It began with brush fires, then railroad ties, before a volunteer firefighter in Dupont and Laflin set blazes inside buildings, according to charges filed Wednesday.

State police at Wyoming charged David Charles Donnora, 23, with setting five fires. Police said he is suspected of setting as many as 13 fires from May to December.

State police previously charged Donnora with setting a blaze at 215 Main St., Dupont, an apartment building that was occupied by one person, on Dec. 10.

Donnora was arraigned before District Judge Diana Malast on two counts of arson and one count each of burglary and criminal mischief, and before District Judge Andrew Barilla in Pittston on charges of arson, burglary and reckless burning. He was released on $125,000 unsecured bail.

According to the criminal complaint, state police deputy fire marshal Trooper Ron Jarocha investigated the Dec. 10 blaze in Dupont and questioned Donnora, who responded as a volunteer firefighter with the Dupont Hose Company. Jarocha determined the blaze was set by igniting a couch on a rear porch.

Donnora admitted during the interview he set 13 fires from May to December because he enjoyed battling the blazes as a volunteer firefighter, according to the criminal complaint.

Here is a list of fires Donnora admitted to setting, according to the criminal complaint:

• May 6: Brush fire along Laflin Road, Laflin.

• May 20: Brush fire along Laflin Road, Laflin.

• May 27: Brush fire along Laflin Road, Laflin. Firefighters were dispatched to the wrong location while Donnora arrived at the brush fire.

• June 3: Railroad ties in Laflin.

• June 7: An unoccupied residence at 112 Oak St., Pittston Township. Donnora allegedly said he entered an unlocked rear door and lit a shirt on fire.

• June 10: Brush fire near state Route 315, Laflin.

• June 26: Brush fire near state Route 315, Laflin.

• July 3: Trailer used for storage near state Route 315.

• Aug. 18: Brush fire along Sunset Road, Laflin.

• Sept. 1: Brush fire along Main Street, Laflin.

• Sept. 16: Unoccupied residence at 112 Oak St., Pittston Township. Donnora allegedly said he entered the same rear door as he did on June 7 and ignited debris.

• Sept. 30: A building at 351 Lidys Road, Dupont.

• Dec. 10: An apartment building at 215 Main St., Dupont.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Jan. 16.
