WILKES-BARRE -- The Wilkes University field hockey team dropped its Freedom Conference opener 5-3 to Eastern University on Saturday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.

Lauren Ritchey, Lauren Pawling and Aliya Frankel scored in the effort for Wilkes.

With the loss Wilkes falls to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in league play. Eastern improves to 5-2 on the year, 1-0 in Freedom games.

King's 5, Manhattanville 1

King's kicked off Freedom Conference play with a victory over host Manhattanville.

Calli Berryman, Lindsey Paduck, Abby McManus, Jackie Sikora and Megan Wernimont all scored for the Monarchs.

Wilkes players reach semis

Wilkes saw six individuals reach the semifinals and three doubles teams reach the finals on day one of the Scranton Invitational.

Singles winners included Steven Wilson, Connor Peckham, Max Appello, Brandon Helfrich, Clarke Freeman and Brendon Blachowski

In doubles play, winners were the teams of Appello/Daniel Hackford and Blachowski/Freeman.

King's 6, Alvernia 3

Chris DiMino and Andy Panzita were winners in both singles and doubles to pace the Monarchs. In the loss to Susquehanna, Dimino and Jake Rohring were also double-winners. DiMino went 4-0 on the day.

Susquehanna 5, King's 4

Garret Lynn, Mats Haaland and Kevin Schneider won in singles action, while the team of Haaland and Ian Endresen won in doubles for King's.

Susquehanna 8, King's 1

Liz Demko and Kaitlyn Rossowski were winners in doubles for the Monarchs in their loss.

Misericordia 2, Elizabethtown 1, 2 OT

Bryce Houdeshel scored early in the second overtime to lift Misericordia to a win at Elizabethtown.

Josh Pfahl added a goal and Nick von Egypt had two assists for the Cougars, and Barry Fitzgerald made eight saves to earn his first collegiate win in goal.

Lebanon Valley 1, Wilkes 0

Cam Alexander scored the game winning goal to lead visiting Lebanon Valley to a win over Wilkes at Schmidt Stadium.

Dave Marr (had nine saves in goal for the Colonels while James Clements recorded the shutout with four saves of his own.

Wilkes 0, Arcadia 0, 2 OT

Even 120 minutes of play could not decide the outcome as visiting Wilkes University and Arcadia University settled for a scoreless tie in non-league play.

Kate Mahoney finished with four saves in net for the Colonels, while Arcadia keeper Veronica Willig also made four stops.

Albright 1, King's 0

King's dropped a tough decision to visiting Albright at McCarthy Stadium.

Lauren Duguid took the loss in net making four saves including three in the second half to keep King's close.

Misericordia 3, Rosemont 0

Misericordia swept Rosemont 25-10, 25-17, 25-16 at Marywood.

Kat LaBrie had six kills and three aces, while Nicole Korgeski had 15 assists and Meghan Stack, Kellyn Swanson and Samantha Baro all had four kills.

Marywood 3, Misericordia 1

Marywood defeated Misericordia 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 20-25.

Kat LaBrie had 18 kills, Kellyn Swanson had eight kills and 12 digs, Meghan Stack had six kills and 10 digs and Nicole Korgeski had 30 assists.

Albright 3, King's 1

Visiting Albright posted a victory over King's 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-23 in Scandlon Gymnasium.

Alexa Nelson had16 kills, Kelsie Kramer had 10 kills, Elen O'Donnell had nine kills and three digs, Mary Loughran had 39 assists, Alyssa Powell registered 19 digs, Eboni Chase had 12 digs, Jillian Foster had 10 digs and Molly Dahl recorded four kills, three digs, and two solo blocks.

Wyoming Valley Wets 6, MMI Prep 1

Ayssa shaver recorded three goals in the Wyoming Valley West victory.

Katlyn Frey had the lone goal in the effort for MMI Prep.
