Wilkes soccer beats Royals

EDWARDSVILLE — Jana Martin and Katy Fissel each scored to lift the Wilkes women's soccer team to a 2-0 win at home against area rival Scranton.

Freshman goalie Kate Mahoney earned the shutout for the Colonels with five saves.

Freshman Erin Laird scored the only goal King's would need in a season-opening win on the road against Penn State Berks.

Megan Lannigan scored a pair of goals in a non-conference win on the road for Misericordia.

Alyssa Mocion also scored for the Cougars, while Sam Helmsetter, Nicolette Hensel and Laura Roney each added assists.

Freshman Daniel Hernandez scored his first collegiate goal as King's tied Marywood in a non-conference contest.

Eric Kishbaugh and Dan Pinto both scored late in the game for Misericordia in a win at home.

Laura Megargel scored twice to lead Scranton in a win on the road against Misericordia.

Terra Hall and Allison Alexander provided the offense for Misericordia.

Visiting Marywood University won the final two sets in a 25-23, 10-25, 25-21, 25-16 victory.

Casey Bohan led Wilkes with 18 kills while Paige Trusty and Alisha Rupp added 12 and 11 kills respectively. Setter Megan Powers posted a team-high 39 assists.

Misericordia earned a sweep of Immaculata in non-conference play by the scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-21.

Samantha Baro posted 15 digs for Misericordia, while Nicole Korgeski added 11 assists and 11 digs. Meghan Stack notched a team-high 17 assists.

Lackawanna College earned the sweep with scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-15.
