Dr. Haitham Shahrour, a pediatrician with Alliance Medical Group, recently received board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics. Certification ensures that a doctor has been tested to assess his or her knowledge, skills, and experience in a specialty and is deemed qualified to provide quality patient care in that specialty. Shahrour joined Alliance Medical Group in January 2012. He provides primary care for newborns to adulthood and has a special interest working with children who are diagnosed with childhood asthma. Shahrour completed his doctorate of medicine at the University of Damascus in Syria. He did his residency training at State University of New York at Buffalo and the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Dr. Shahrour is a professional member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Kim Emick, an occupational therapist at Allied Rehab Hospital, was recently certified in the treatment of lymphedema by Lymphatic Care Specialists in Blacksburg, Va., where she studied anatomy, physiology, and the pathophysiology of the lymphatic system as well as hands-on lab training in the treatment of lymphedema using massage and bandaging portions. Emick earned her graduate degree from Misericordia University and her undergraduate degree from the University of Scranton. She lives in Scranton with her husband Tim and daughters Shonna and Madolyn.
