PLYMOUTH — Borough firefighters prevented a garage fire from spreading to a family home Sunday afternoon.

A call for a garage fire at 25 Franklin St. came out at 3:48 p.m., Plymouth Fire Capt. Brian Oppelt confirmed.

The home could have caught fire and damage to the garage could have been much worse “if we didn’t get there when we did. The quick response and aggressive firefighting (prevented the fire from gutting the garage),” Oppelt said.

Plymouth Borough Fire Department, Hanover Township RIT (Rapid Intervention Team), Plymouth Cascade and Plymouth police responded to the fire. The scene was cleared at 5:45 p.m.

The family was home at the time and a male was working in the garage, according to Oppelt.

“It was 100 percent accidental,” Oppelt said.

A motorcycle and car that were inside the garage are “salvageable” as well, he said.
