FREELAND: MMI Preparatory School is hosting its annual open house 2-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.

Students will showcase their special research projects at the event. All students, from sixth-graders to seniors, will display, explain and demonstrate their projects in classrooms and locations throughout the school. There will also be food projects, prepared primarily by foreign language students, which will be available for sampling.

Non-food projects will be available to the public 2-4 p.m. and culinary projects will be available 2:30-4:30 p.m.

NANTICOKE: Representatives from the Admissions Office at Luzerne County Community College will hold information sessions starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, April 20, at the Wilkes-Barre Center; Wednesday, April 22, at the Hazleton Center; Wednesday, April 29, at the Berwick Center; and Wednesday, May 6, at the Northumberland Center.

There will be two additional evening sessions starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, at the college’s Wilkes-Barre Center and on Wednesday, April 22, at the Hazleton Center. Bilingual services will be available at both evening sessions.

The college officials will have information on credit and non-credit course offerings, tuition costs, financial aid, retraining programs for the unemployed, career planning, educational opportunities and admission procedures.

PLYMOUTH: The Rotary Club of Plymouth is hosting its 28th annual Nite at the Races at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, at the Holy Child Faith Formation Center, 119 Willow Street.

Horses may be purchased in advance for $10 from any Plymouth Rotarian or at the door on the day of the race. Owners of the winning horses need not be present to claim the $50 prize. Guests not sponsoring a horse will pay $8, which includes all refreshments and food. Must be 21 years of age to attend. Proceeds from the event will support Rotary community service projects in the Plymouth area.

SCRANTON: North Anthracite Council League of Ukrainian Catholics will meet on Sunday, May 3, at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, 430 N. Seventh Avenue. The council includes Lackawanna, Luzerne and Columbia Counties.

Moleben prayer service will begin at 3 p.m. and the business session will take place at 3:30 p.m., followed by a reception and fellowship. Main agenda items include discussion of the upcoming May 16 bus trip to the annual St. George Ukrainian Street Festival in New York City and the October 2015 National LUC Convention in Lansdale.

SUGAR NOTCH: Holy Family Parish, 828 Main St., is holding a Night at the Races on Saturday, May 2, in the church hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. Dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and post time is 6:30 p.m. The buffet dinner is free with a horse donation of $10. Deadline to purchase horses is Sunday, April 26. Dinner menu includes chicken scampi, pulled pork, meatballs, ziti, chicken and stuffing, Tarnowski’s kielbasa, hot dogs with chili or sauerkraut, American pierogies, macaroni salad, baked beans, coleslaw, haluski, copper penny salad, soda, beer and desserts. A Mad Hatter drawing will also be held in honor of the running of the 141st Kentucky Derby. Participants are encouraged to wear hats in order to be entered into the prize drawing.

WILKES-BARRE: The Christian Women of Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in the rectory. Plans for the annual Mother’s Day dinner to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at the Bear Creek Inne will be finalized. All women of the parish are invited to attend the dinner.
