DALLAS — Dallas withstood a late rally Monday afternoon to complete a sweep of the season baseball series with rival Lake-Lehman by hanging on for a 7-6 victory.

The Mountaineers had a six-run lead in the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 game before Lake-Lehman scored five times in the top of the sixth inning.

Lee Eckert allowed just two hits, but needed relief help from Ed Hontz to get through the sixth inning. Jordan McCrum then got the last three outs, striking out two while allowing one hit and no runs, to get the save.

Dave Simpson, who continued a strong season at the plate, and J.D. Barrett each drove in two runs and had a triple for Dallas. Barrett went 3-for-4 and scored a run while Simpson had two hits.

McCrum also scored twice for Dallas, which put runs on the board in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to open its 7-1 lead.

Justus Cole had a three-run double for Lake-Lehman during the sixth-inning rally.

Zach Brucher went 2-for-4.

The win allowed Dallas, the defending Division 2 champion, to climb back to the .500 mark at 5-5 in the WVC. Lake-Lehman fell to 1-9.

The regular season is scheduled to conclude Monday when Dallas plays at Tunkhannock.

District 2 Class AAA playoffs, which include Dallas, Tunkhannock and Lake-Lehman, are scheduled to open Friday, May 15.
