Jennifer Balent and Joseph Calore were united in the sacrament of marriage at Saint Benedict’s Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, by the Reverend Joseph Kearney.

The bride is the daughter of Joseph and Doris Balent, of Plains. She is the granddaughter of the late Michael and Clara Balent, of Plains and the late William and Irene Schur, of Wilkes-Barre.

The groom is the son of the late Robert and Joan Ann Calore, of Wilkes-Barre. He is the grandson of the late Joseph and Catherine Calore, of Wilkes-Barre and the late Thomas and Dorothy Burns, of Wilkes-Barre.

The bride was given in marriage by her father. She chose her sister, Lisa Evanofski, as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Ann Pedana, friend of the bride; Kathleen Franckiewicz, Theresa Macko and Marie Calore, sisters of the groom.

The groom chose his brother, Thomas Calore, as his best man. Groomsmen were Patrick Franckiewicz and Kenneth Macko, brothers-in-law of the groom and Larry Melf, friend of the bride and groom.

Scriptural readings were given by Michael Calore, uncle of the groom and Elizabeth Schur, aunt and godmother of the bride. The Prayer of the Faithful was offered by Christopher Calore, uncle of the groom. Offertory gifts were presented by Paul and Mary Pat Wiedlich, godparents of the groom; Elizabeth Schur, aunt and godmother of the bride and Marie Ann Mitchell, aunt of the groom.

The ceremony featured music from cantor and organist Jill Fiedorczyk. It also featured soloist Sister Mary Joseph Calore, SSCJ, sister of the groom, who beautifully performed Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria.

Ring bearers were Mark Kochuba, son of the bride and stepson of the groom and Connor Evanofski, nephew of the bride. Paige Evanofski, niece of the bride, served as flower girl.

An evening cocktail hour and reception was held at R&D Memories in Hanover Township.

The bride is a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary and early childhood education from King’s College. She is employed as an employment consultant for Educational Data Systems, Inc., at the Wilkes-Barre Career Link Office. The groom is a graduate of Elmer L. Meyers High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in human resources management from King’s College and a master of business administration degree from Wilkes University. He is employed as a program director for the Commission on Economic Opportunity in Wilkes-Barre. Following a honeymoon to Anna Maria Island, Florida, the couple resides in Wilkes-Barre.
