PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pennsylvania-based drugstore chain is donating $2 million to a nonprofit foundation named after Fred Rogers, the creator and late host of the television show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1ldSwaU ) Cumberland County-based Rite Aid Corp. is set to announce the donation to Fred Rogers Co. on Friday.
The foundation produces children’s programs on PBS. The donation will be used to underwrite an animated series, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” that airs on PBS Kids.
Bill Isler, the president of the Pittsburgh-based foundation, says the donation marks the first corporate foundation funding for the show.
Isler says the gift will also support web and digital promotions, and free streaming of the program on PBS.
