CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — State police have been searching for a man who robbed a 92-year-old great-grandmother, taking a safe with her life savings, engagement ring and family heirlooms.

Uniontown troopers say the woman’s Dunbar Township home was robbed about noon Tuesday. A masked man entered through a door the woman had left unlocked because she was expecting a visit from her daughter.

Instead, the suspect forced the woman into the basement while he went through her home and found the safe. When she told him she was too nervous to remember how to open it, the suspect smashed the chest of drawers the safe was attached to and ran out the door with it.

The man pushed porch furniture to block the woman’s way out of the house, and she called 911.
