WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) — State police say no charges will be filed against an inmate who slashed a corrections officer nearly a dozen times at a western Pennsylvania prison last fall.
Officials told The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (http://bit.ly/1TqLuP5 ) that the decision was made after consultation with the injured SCI-Greene guard and the Greene County district attorney.
Trooper Daniel Barnhart said the inmate’s life sentence for murder was a leading factor in the decision against filing charges since he will not be released from prison. District Attorney Marjorie Fox confirmed that no charges would be filed but declined further comment.
Authorities said the inmate used a shank Nov. 19 and inflicted 10 cuts and lacerations on the guard, most of which were superficial wound, although one cut to the back of the head required stitches.
