GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors have dropped charges against a former western Pennsylvania high school guidance counselor accused of having sex with a football player who came to her for help.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports (http://bit.ly/1YibXgC ) a Westmoreland County judge dismissed charges against 34-year-old Lianne Danko because the victim doesn’t want to testify in the case. District Attorney John Peck said Thursday that the case couldn’t proceed against the Ringgold High School counselor without the victim.

The West Newton woman was charged in May 2015 with institutional sexual assault. Police alleged that an 18-year-old male student went to her to discuss relationship problems and the two began exchanging intimate text messages. Authorities say they later met in a parking lot to have sex.

Danko resigned from the job in February 2015.
