ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A New York woman who walked to a pond and drowned after suffering only minor injuries in a Pennsylvania traffic accident had schizophrenia and may have been suffering from a mental health episode.

The Erie Times-News (http://bit.ly/1RIlDRl ) says the Erie County coroner’s office announced those findings earlier this week in the death of 39-year-old Laura Nicholson, of Buffalo. As a result, the manner of her death — which could be accidental, homicide or suicide — has been left undetermined.

Nicholson drowned about 200 yards from where she crashed her car Nov. 9 in Summit Township, an Erie suburb.

Nicholson had crossed a double-yellow line trying to pass a vehicle just after 8 a.m. before hitting another car head-on and killing its driver. She suffered only bumps and bruises before walking into the pond.
