ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — As the 241st anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War approaches this week, many of the American soldiers who did the fighting and dying are no longer anonymous figures from the history books.

Their names, hometowns and military service are increasingly accessible as national and state parks and other Revolutionary War sites compile soldier lists that are a boon to genealogy buffs. The digitizing of military documents from the Revolution has made it easier to compile list of soldiers who fought at a particular battle or were part of an encampment.

National parks such as Saratoga and Valley Forge have posted their databases online. Valley Forge’s is the largest with some 25,000 names, while Saratoga’s has more than 18,000 individuals listed.
