CATASAUQUA, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a police officer shot and injured a dog after the animal attacked another officer in eastern Pennsylvania.

WFMZ–TV (http://bit.ly/22HlUXK ) reports that officers in Catasauqua responded to a home shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday after a report of an aggressive dog chewing and breaking through a fence.

Police said officers collared the dog and transported the animal to a local kennel, but when the tie was being removed from the dog’s neck it attacked an officer.

Police said a nearby officer fired his weapon, injuring the dog. The officer was treated at a local hospital and released. The dog was taken to Quakertown Veterinary Clinic and is expected to survive.
