LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A steer, horse and two sheep have been killed in a barn collapse in central Pennsylvania.
Witnesses reported the incident in Buffalo Township, Union County, about 1 20 p.m. Sunday. That’s about 60 miles north of Harrisburg.
Mifflinburg Fire Chief Steve Walter says it appears part of the barn suffered from dry rot and when it collapsed, the rest of the structure did, too. The barn was about 40 feet wide and 400 feet long.
The fire chief says four horses, two calves and some baby lambs were inside and rescued. Twenty-eight head of cattle were outside the barn when it collapsed and not hurt.
The chief says some neighboring farmers planned to house the animals temporarily until the owners of the barn, Craig and Crystal Bollinger, can make other arrangements.
