Garry and Cheryl Young, of Hanover Township, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 25, 2017.

They met through a pen pal service. Garry would travel every weekend from Ohio to Pennsylvania to visit Cheryl. After nine-months of only being able to see each other on weekends, they were married and have been happy and in love ever since.

They were married in Wilkes-Barre and their attendants were Diane Fathel, maid of honor; and Paul Becker, best man.

The couple has one daughter: Rachel, and son-in-law, Brian Kaslavage. They have two grandchildren: Matthew and Faith.

Garry and Cheryl were honored by their family who gathered for a surprise 40th wedding anniversary party at The Checkerboard Inn, Trucksville.
