Foster J. Ritchie Sr., 85, of Seminary Place, Forty Fort, died Monday
evening in the Hospice Community Care Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Anthony and Madeline
Ionnetti Ritchie.
He attended Wilkes-Barre schools and was a member of Holy Trinity Church,
Swoyersville, and the Teamsters Local 401, Wilkes-Barre.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under Gen. George
Patton with the 631 ST Tank Destroyer Battalion. He received the European
Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars.
He resided in Forty Fort for more than 40 years. Previously, he lived in
Wilkes-Barre.
Before retiring in 1968, he was employed by the former Frantz Transfer
Trucking Co., Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Angela “Nellie” Barnoski,
in 1963; a daughter, Madeline; brothers, Anthony and John Ritchie; a
stepbrother, Frank Berry; sisters, Christina Yanora and Jeanette Gianuzzi.
Surviving are his sons, Foster J. Ritchie Jr., at home; John Ritchie of
Wilkes-Barre; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son
Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, followed by a funeral Mass
at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
