WILKES-BARRE — Wyoming Valley Art League has announced a two-day exploration of the Day of the Dead, All Saint’s Day and All Soul’s Day during the art exhibit “Day of the Dead: A Celebration of Life and Cultures.”

The event, held 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2 at WVAL’s 130 S Franklin St. location, in conjunction with Avoca-based Langcliffe Presbyterian Church, will include an art exhibition, guest speakers, poetry readings, ofrendas (collections of objects traditionally placed on altars during Day of the Dead celebrations) and a TEDtalk screening.

The event is free, non-denominational and open to the public.

WVAL is accepting submissions for the exhibit in the form of photography, mixed media, paintings (oil, acrylic and watercolor), assemblages and works on paper. Sculpture and ceramics will be considered with prior approval for submission due to space limitations. For more information and a submission form, visit the “Day of the Dead: A Celebration of Life and Cultures” event page on Facebook or call 570-288-1020.
