WEST PITTSTON — West Pittston will transform itself into Halloweentown this October, promising plenty of spooky fun activities for the whole family leading up to Halloween.
Delaware Avenue has long been the premiere destination for Halloween fun in the borough, attracting hoards of trick-or-treaters every year. The tradition’s continued success prompted the West Pittston Halloweentown Committee to begin developing plans to get even more of the community involved in the seasonal festivities.
“We’re thrilled to announce that West Pittston is undergoing a spine-chilling transformation into Halloweentown this year,” said Megan Rogers, of the West Pittston Halloweentown Committee. “This experience will provide a unique opportunity for families, friends, and visitors from all over to come together and celebrate the magic of Halloween.”
The Facebook post on Monday stated that the committee has been working for months planning this season and will roll out a series of Halloween-themed events and activities in the coming years, including Halloween Trot.
In the same post, Mayor Angelo Alfano expressed his support and excitement the season’s festivities.
“We are thrilled to announce that West Pittston is embracing its spooky side and becoming Halloweentown. While we won’t have large-scale events this year, we are committed to crafting a Halloween experience that will send shivers down your spine in the future,” said Alfano.
Activities include:
Trick-or-Treat Extravaganza: Highly anticipated Trick-or-Treat Extravaganza for the old family along Delaware Avenue. Because of the volume of trick or treaters, Delaware Avenue will be closed from Wyoming Avenue to Fifth Street and Fourth Street will be closed between Montgomery and Philadelphia Avenue. Two food trucks, The Lunchbox and Notis the Gyro King, will be on hand.
Halloween House Decorating Contest: The inaugural event held by West Pittston Tomorrow. The top three houses will receive gift cards from local businesses. Judging begins Oct. 22 on Halloween via the West Pittston Tomorrow’s Facebook page. The winning homes this year won’t be able to win again for three years.
Trunk or Treat: Howell-Lussi Funeral Home on Wyoming Avenue will hold their 2nd annual Trunk or Treat at the funeral home on Oct. 21 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Those interested in entering a car can do so by messaing the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Facebook page.
