WILKES-BARRE — A Hazleton man who snapped the necks of two nine-month-old pit bull puppies last year was sentenced Friday to 11 to 23 months in county jail.
Cody Robert Anderson, 27, of Diamond Avenue, was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility following sentencing by Judge Michael T. Vough. Anderson pleaded guilty in September to two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
Anderson admitted to killing the dogs in May 2015, days after they bit Yvette Hayle and Danielle Stetler. Both dogs lived with the women at a South Poplar Street residence, according to the affidavit.
A friend of the family, Anderson was asked by the women to go to their home and “get rid of the dogs,” the affidavit says. He returned about two hours later and said, “It’s done. I snapped their necks.”
The animals were discovered in a park near Heights Terrace Middle School on Mill Street in Hazleton.
Garry S. Taroli, who prosecuted the case, said anyone unable to care for their pets should bring them to an SPCA or private shelter.
“Don’t hurt or kill them,” Taroli said.
