SCRANTON — Luzerne County Community College is set to add to a steadily expanding list of colleges and universities offering dual admission with the two-year school. On Friday, LCCC and the University of Scranton will formally announce an agreement designed to facilitate transfer of credits.

LCCC has been inking deals with four-year institutions at an increased clip to make it easier to transfer credits, citing 41 colleges and universities on its website.

The goal, LCCC President Tom Leary repeatedly says, is to make four-year degrees more affordable. Students can get two year’s of credits at LCCC for substantially less than at many of the schools on the list, and transfer credits toward a four-year degree once they leave LCCC.

Leary and University of Scranton President The Rev. Kevin Quinn are scheduled to sign the agreement between the two schools during an event Friday morning at LCCC’s recently opened Scranton Center in The Marketplace at Steamtown.

LCCC set up shop in the mall in August of 2016, taking over space previously occupied by Bon Ton Department Store. The Marketplace has been working to reinvent itself after a foreclosure sale in March of 2014 that was followed by an exodus of stores, including anchor Bon Ton.
