WILKES-BARRE — Police have identified a man whose body was found in an abandoned building on South Franklin Street this week.
Ramon Torres, 23, no known address, died of multiple stab wounds, authorities say.
Torres had been reported as a missing person April 24, officers noted in a Facebook post.
The death has been ruled a homicide, according to Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis. Her office is assisting the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police in the investigation.
City police previously reported that officers from Wilkes-Barre and Kingston responded to a report of a possible body in an abandoned building in the 400 block of South Franklin Street on Monday. Officers conducted a limited search of several buildings.
Wilkes-Barre detectives returned Tuesday to resume the search and found the body in the basement of a building.
The coroner’s office removed the body.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Wilkes-Barre City Police Detective Division at 570-208-4222.
