WILKES-BARRE — The United Way of Wyoming Valley recently gave away its 50,000th book through its partner, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

Charlotte McGinnis, 1, of Mountain Top, was the lucky recipient — though mom and dad might have to help her turn the pages and sound out some of the bigger words.

More than 2,800 Wyoming Valley children are enrolled in the library, which sends high quality, age-appropriate books to children every month, free of charge. Children from birth to age 5 are eligible for the free books.

Interested parents can enroll their child by calling the United Way of Wyoming Valley at 570-270-9109.

Children are eligible as long as they are residents of the Wyoming Valley.
