SALEM TWP. — If you hear sirens in the area of the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station on Thursday morning, don’t worry: it’s only a test.

The nuclear power plant, located just outside Berwick, will be conducting a test of its emergency notification system at 11 a.m. Thursday.

According to a release from the plant, all sirens within a 10-mile radius of the plant will sound with a steady tone. It’ll last for approximately three minutes.

Shortly after the sirens sound, a message about the test will be carried on local television and radio stations. Your mobile device may also buzz with a notification about the test, if you have that feature activated.

The plant says that the public doesn’t need to take any sort of action during the test.
