Family seeking driver who hit and killed dog

I am writing this letter to ask for help in finding the person responsible for killing my family’s black lab, “Buddy.”

Buddy was hit by a person driving a white Jeep on Tuesday night, Dec. 7, on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard near the Butler Street intersection, Wilkes-Barre.

Witnesses say the person in the Jeep was not paying attention. The driver showed a lack of compassion by not slowing or stopping.

Sadly, the apparent stupidity of the driver left our family without our beloved Buddy. He was a member of our family, and he will be missed.

The good side of all this was the valiant witnesses and bystanders who tried to help Buddy. Someone wrapped Buddy in a blanket to keep him warm until my family arrived.

The staff at Dr. Hassinger’s animal hospital did their very best to save him. Our family thanks everyone who tried to help.

If you have any information on who did this awful thing to Buddy, please call me at (570) 262-3645.

Writer has doubts about lawmakers’ fiscal ability

On the front page of The Times Leader’s Dec. 9 edition it stated, “Lou Barletta and Tom Marino face red ink after their successful runs for Congress.” Back page of same section: “Kanjorski, Carney face leftover campaign options.”

Doesn’t it seem a bit ironic, if not disturbing, that the two fellows who ran on a platform of “balancing the federal budget” can’t seem to be able to balance their own campaign budgets? (Congressman-elect Barletta hasn’t balanced his 2008 or ’06 budgets, and is leaving Hazleton in a red tape mess.)

However, I’ll bet they won’t have any trouble voting against any raises for senior citizens’ Social Security payments.

Blue Cross rate hike lambasted by writer

I would like to know why the state thinks Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania needs a rate increase.

I am a Reagan Republican, and as such I hate government interference in the private sector. But this has gone far enough. It is time for the government to crack down on insurance companies and put an end, once and for all, to this kind of abuse.
